After their mother’s death, estranged sisters Nora and Agnes Borg are confronted with the return of their father Gustav, a once-famous, now nearly forgotten film director who abandoned the family when they were still children. Nora is a successful stage actress, while Agnes leads a secure family life. Gustav hopes to make his mark on the film world once again with an autobiographical screenplay about his mother, who took her own life after being tortured by the Nazis. He offers the lead role to Nora, but when she turns it down, he casts Hollywood actress Rachel Kemp instead.

As filming begins at the family home in Norway, however, Gustav is seeking more than artistic recognition – he wants to heal old wounds and rebuild his relationship with his daughters.
