The film A Clockwork Orange premiered at the end of 1971 and is probably the most controversial work of the legendary Stanley Kubrick. He described the film as “a story of a teenager’s redemption through reflex therapy, and at the same time a lecture on free will.”

An adaptation worthy of the original
The cult novel by Anthony Burgess was brought to the screen in 1971 and shocked the public with scenes of extreme violence. In the United Kingdom, where Stanley Kubrick lived and worked, the film was withdrawn from distribution at the director’s request, as he and his family reportedly received threats because of A Clockwork Orange. Until Kubrick’s death in the late 1990s, he strictly controlled the enforcement of the ban, after which the film gradually returned to British cinemas and television schedules.
