The film examines how Slovenians began to perceive themselves as a nation through sport—first through skiing and ski jumping, and later also through football. Through the personal story of the author, who moved from Bosnia to Slovenia, it reveals how sporting successes became a foundation of national self-confidence, largely in contrast to Yugoslav identity. Those Who Don’t Jump is a film about the rises and falls of national consciousness, the power and danger of collective emotions, and the question: what does it mean to be Slovenian today, and can sport still carry this burden?
After the screening, the film’s director Boris Petkovič and the versatile author Goran Vojnović will join us.
