A Clockwork Orange premiered at the end of 1971 and is probably the most controversial work by the legendary Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick described the film as “a story of the dubious redemption of an adolescent delinquent by condition-reflex therapy” and, at the same time, “a running lecture on free will.”

An Adaptation Worthy of the Original
Burgess’s cult novel was brought to the big screen in 1971, causing enormous public controversy with its scenes of extreme violence. In the United Kingdom, where Stanley Kubrick lived and worked, the film was withdrawn from distribution at the director’s request after threats were reportedly made against him and his family because of A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick strictly controlled the ban on screenings until his death in the late 1990s. Afterwards, the film began appearing again in British cinemas and on television.
