When Costumes Get a New Story – A Sustainable Carnival in Izola

On Saturday, 7 February 2026, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., a CARNIVAL COSTUME EXCHANGE took place at the Kulturni dom Izola, organized in cooperation with CUP Izola. The event combined sustainability, creativity, and community spirit, proving that Carnival can also be a celebration of responsible resource use.

Visitors brought carnival costumes for children and adults that they no longer needed and exchanged them for others. In this way, the costumes were given a new opportunity for use, while participants saved money and contributed to reducing textile waste. Instead of buying new costumes, often worn only once, we encouraged reuse and the extension of clothing life cycles.

The event was not only an opportunity to refresh Carnival wardrobes, but also to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable practices in everyday life. The textile industry represents a significant environmental challenge, which is why initiatives such as costume exchanges are an important step toward more responsible and mindful consumption.
